Not sure if this option was always available, if it was added at some point I missed it in patch notes.
Special powers after awakening are still displayed during missions but the extra elements like Jin's mecha wings or Erwin cyber gun are gone.
It applies to all characters simultaneously.
Maybe someone else missed it so yeah, hope it helps with fashion and other possible reasons.
