Server Location(s) [A question for the staff]

  • Greetings all!

Apologies if this has been asked already as it seems the boards are quite fast-moving... Perhaps something like this can even be stickied in a FAQ, or included on the Facebook, twitter feeds, etc. As the game draws ever closer to launch (yes, I know, *breathing intensifies*), alot of us first-timers to a GameForge game (who can't draw assumptions from prior launches) are very curious where the servers are to be run out of. (where, the datacenter[s] used, etc)

For example if NA / EU playerbase centric, it could be East-Coast such as NewYork or Montreal [CA] as region-central picks. Yet this is a concern for friends in Singapore, Jakarta, and Australia as an action MMO. (as it may mean having a ping up there close to 300ms in the Jakarta case)

--I'm also curious of course (inquiring minds want to know), yet I'm being asked to ask, told the forums are live (woohoo), and well thus brings us here. Don't need a test-IP necessarily, yet of course if you can provide one that'd be even more awesome.

Please lay out some glorious networking details for us,

    Cheers!~

    EDIT:

Seems that this was already asked as part of a combination post. Will check both, adding the reference for anyone else that comes across this one incase.

  • Hello Eliya!

We can't communicate the exact location but I can confirm you that the European servers are in Central Europe and the North American server is East coast located.

Do EU servers share same data center? I mean is there any difference except language in them? For example if player lives closer to Poland than Germany will there be lower ping on PL server for him than on DE?

That's enough to at least set some expectations, although unfortunate in the case of the NA selection being regionally between EU and NA (not central to NA), whereas EU is central to Europe. That is, in regards to Oceanic English-players hoping to get in on the action.

Thanks for filling us in on what you can!

  • East Coast works for me. I hope latency isn't going to be an issue for west coasters and the Oceanic region that would love to play the game.

  • pretty sure eu servers are in Germany

for those who care about lag and stuff like that, you can even play on eu server from NA without much lag. so yeah don't worry <3

  • I remember that they said on FB that there was not going to be any IP blocks.

Dug through the facebook posts and did not see this mentioned (saw it asked in the comments, yet not answered).. however several review sites list GameForge's version as "Global" / English which is a very good sign.

Bear in mind that connections from NA to Frankfurt would cap out around 150-160ms (from the West Coast, not including CPE latency and things like DSL interleaving). This is still sub 200ms and pretty-good for an action MMO. NewYork, Illinois, etc, could get latencies under 100ms (best-case). I'm assuming that they'll use "Frankfurt" for the EU location, as with these forums.

--This is insignificant compared to what the latency would be from say, Jakarta to NYC, NJ, or Montreal CA.

Jakarta to NYC is equivilent in latency (to put this into perspective) of connecting from Japan to Germany. (Jakarta > Singapore > Japan > Los Angeles (Asianet, best-case) > NYC (direct fiber coast to coast) = ~ 260-280ms (depending the backbone latency at the time) If there's an extra hop, like if Montreal is opted for instead, the routing gets worse and can exceed 300ms. And, as with the case of DSL, you might add another 14-24ms for interleaving. (or 8-10ms in the case of cable)

In jist, for Oceanic players this is far worse than the case of connection from NA to EU. Yes, it's still possible to play games even with latencies like that, just as it's possible to even clear Titan-Extreme in XIV with 300ms (I artificially raised my latency back when playing it to experience this first hand).... but the experience of the game is very-different when you're playing with latencies so high.

Reaction dodging becomes "impossible" and it's basically required to perfectly know the enemy rotation and predict / move in advance of seeing any combat cues. (based on self timing and mental counting) I cannot say how this will translate in SoulWorker, so maybe someone can chime in with experience on boss fights and raids per dodges.

I'll say this though, my friends are worried that they won't be able to do endgame content.

  • well pretty sure you can play the early levels with 200+ ms as long as you go as a big group (tho for info : if i rememeber correctly the boss get stronger the more there are in the group (max 4))

i played on the jp server , using a vpn with said 200 up to 400 ms (with dcs) it was playable until you get around lv35+ were the maps just get too many monsters to deal with just by tanking everything (with 11k hp and so many potion one would expect not to die so fast but potion still cost a lot for someone who just can no longer sell his items duo to the server policy's) but at some point whilest going as duos we lost some games just bcz of the lag the boss would just use fast attacks and dodging them with high ms is kinda hard so you could dodge like 1/3 of those skill each taking 80% of your max hp.

yet again i'm pretty sure that NA will have it's own server, but i have no idea about Oceanic players.

  • Hello. I was wondering where the servers are in North America. The NA server has been much better but I still feel some very very slight lag. So my ping may be around 160-200.

I'd like to know the server IP too if possible.

    Quoted from Nyoka

  • Well, I'm in the est coast but still getting some slight lag. I'm wondering if there is anyway to lower my ping or maybe the servers are still not up to speed?

The lag is very slight though and doesn't hender too much of gameplay but there is a .3 second delay after I click. I can guess I'm getting around 200-300ms right now.

  • Hello,

Xellon just give servers a few days to stabilize them. There are maintenances, files being modified and so many other factors that can affect your latency in the game.
