Pay 2 Win

  • Anyone turned off by the "p2w" aspect? I understand that mmo's need to make profit, but I am having a hard time justifying their approach. For instance, the "strength expansion ticket" can be used unlimited times to restore 5 weapon upgrade durability. I find that a bit off-putting. I would have been totally okay if the ticket can only be used once per weapon, but this is not the case. I did expect some p2w aspects, but not of this magnitude. I guess I was a bit optimistic.

    Thoughts? Ideas?

  • If you can establish your clear definition of pay to win for discussion, we will likely get somewhere rather than go in circles.

By definition .. "Pay to win is when a game company sells stuff that gives an in game advantage through micro transactions". I thought I was clear of what I meant.. a developer controls the magnitude of "p2w"; it can be hugely advantageous (i.e Maplestory) or just beneficial (i.e Black Desert). What I am saying, in terms of "p2w", is that Soulworker is leaning towards the Maplestory ideology. As you can see if you keep purchasing these tickets, a user will eventually get a +9 weapon/armor compared to a person who keeps playing the game. Also, those tickets aren't the only thing that's contributing to the p2w aspect. And yes, I do understand that upgrades cost dzenai, but it would hardly effect the "p2w" player. If you need me to be more clear on what I meant about those 2 games, i'll be more than happy to elaborate.

on a side note, yes I know BDO recently went back on their p2w policy; however, this is not the point of discussion.

  • I'm not too familiar with Maplestory mechanics, but Is upgrading stuff only possible through cash shop items?

Most everything related to weapons is obtainable at a slower rate and even the difference between a free players gear at a decent gear level vs a maxed out player isn't quite that enormous.

I have heard horror stories about how abyssmal Brooch sets and their additional effects are, but it's hardly a make or break you upgrade that's required.

  • I would agree with you if this were the case for another mmo, but this is Soul Worker.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like there’s no real competitive pvp here, so they can’t really use their “huge advantage” anywhere else other than pve. Sure there will be time someone will flex their godly gear, still it doesn’t affect you in anyway. ?(

  • I would say it's more a matter of points of view. As long as they does not bring something that actually makes a difference between a player who pay and one who not cause of said thing being obtainable via paying only, I won't think it is actually pay to win tho, the difference between a paying player and a non-paying player should only be the time required to get thing 'X' (which is fair enough) from my point of view and for what I've seen and heard seems like Soulworker isn't really pay to win.

  • For me P2W is : A company sells items in their cash shop, giving you an advantage and only being available in the cash shop.

For now, its not p2w, imo, since you can farm everything you want in the game for just more time

    LMAO:sleeping:

  • Okay players can pay cash to upgrade, restore stamina etc.

How it affects your gameplay? You so much concerned about other's preformance in dungeons or/and leveling?

It would be understandable if we talked about game with main PvP, RvR or GvG content, but SoulWorker is all about PvE.

There is PVP though, and considering how fast people will blow through their energy at end game. It is very likely that some people will end up pvping more then they pve regardless if its competitive or not since that is all they will be able to do. If you have played any game that has any type of open world pvp you would understand how this can end up a problem in the long run considering the pvp for soul worker looks to be a type of open world pvp that is involuntary.

  • The only things that is wrong about the shop is the high prices, compared to the KR/JP we are getting ripped off hard and this is something that people can't get through their heads.

The items themselves in the shop is not P2W but P2P(Progress)... but for a very high price. If people want to get ripped off its their choice, I wont spend a penny because of this, i was ready to support them but this is just some next level greed on their part.

Don't fall into this trap. Think this every time you open the shop "If i was on the KR/JP server i would have been able to buy "x" item for half the price" :v

Correct me if im wrong, but raids are energy fred

  • I have seen different answers to this so i don't know for sure, but either way if they don't cost energy they most likely have daily entry limits. If they do cost energy its probably like 30 per run, i do know for sure one end game raid requires a special item to even enter. Either way if you are focused on a single raid exhausting your runs/energy will probably take like 2hrs?

  • Whales will help you kill primal without effort. I know i'll be carrying people who exclusively do not shame others and the game for paying to benefit themselves.

tbh, games take either A: Time, B: Money. In rare cases people have both. One who has 10 hrs a day to play vs a hard working person with 2 hours..The hard worker is going to catch up. Otherwise, they would have no incentive to play, or at least be competitive.

..The balance is hard to reach, but a necessary evil.

P.S. - Any game you can sell cosmetics on is p2w far more than any items you can buy off of it. Unlimited funds.

  • More like pay2havegoodhair.

Hey, it's gotta be some high quality hair to cost more than an IRL haircut right?

    Gotta look goooood.

They use those premium, imported pixels you know.

I have a private stylist from Grace okay

  • Id say as soon as they bring stats on fashion or other ways to get exclusive stats / buffs on fashion or smething like buffs +10% dmg only available in the shop , thats when i call p2w
