"in order to fix some translation issues"

  • I hope to god that by that you guys mean you are fixing the god awfull and confusing translation of stats like evaded attack being called partial damage and armor penetration being called armor break when there is another stat already called super armor break that has nothing to do with armor penetration.

Also hope you fix Lily's tornado description that completely je baits ppl to put points on the wrong extension because both say that they move towards enemies when it is 100% wrong, and is BY FAR the biggest fucked up you can do with Lily.

And ofc anyone that actually played the game on other servers cannot ever forget the god awful names you guys for some weird reason decided to give to 90% of NPC's/enemies in the game like:

    Sedurin>LEX

    Shion>SUZIE

    Noah>Nita

    Victor>LUKE III:!::?:

    Enoch>Naran

    Martin>Avon

    Sarah>Frances

    Lucy>NOMAAM(is this even a name?)

    Kain>Kairon

    Junk Knight> Ballride

    Brock>Shade

    Xenia>Ava

    Thor>Toru

And there are way more, but for some reason you left Sora, Amanda, Betty, Miriam and others the same, what was the reasoning here? Martin, Victor, Noah, Sarah are perfectly fine Western names why did you guys at GF find a need to change them to weird names like LUKE III and Avon.

  • Names are inconsistent rather than wrong outright. There are many instances where Victor is still Victor and Kain is still Kain.

For some of the other names I have to again wonder what the original names were in the first place before I can make any constructive input on whether or not they're better or worse. I will not compare to JP's names since they too are vastly different from KR's in many instances.

Oh nice it's not even consistent, not to mention even in KR or JP voices they still say stuff like SHION all the time XD.

Even if some of the names are based off of KR they are still awful for our playerbase, because 1. most ppl played JP server, 2. most ppl that play this game are weebs 100% and would prefer Japanese names than weird af korean ones.

    Well now that's entirely subjective.

I like names from any language, which is understandable considering I've played on Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese servers alike for a plethora of MMO's.

Yea, Japanese names speak to the 'weeb' part of the player-base, but that's not entirely grounds for definitely 100% making all the names Japanese again. There's still players that aren't massive 'weebs' (in an anime MMO? No way!) that would actually prefer English names, or people like me that prefer faithful translations of the original Korean names.

There's no win win situation here.

As for errors and inconsistencies though obviously that's something they have to fix haha.

Entirely off-topic but I couldn't help but notice your signature. It's extremely rare to find other Ar Tonelico fans anywhere. If only they'd make another game :(

  • I agree the translations, while definitely functional, could use some refinement. There is a lot of weird use of gender pronouns and straight up confusing lines that caused me to reread a couple of times to make sure I got it right.

That being said, I am okay with some changes like Shade. Brock should be giving my Charmander a hard time in the first gym, not some sassy SFL girl.

  • Dream kind of hit on all the points I was going to make, However I will point out one thing and that's the text translation for some of the dialog is horrendous. But it has led to some funny scenarios and has it's own... awkward charm lol :)

  • Although some name changes are questionable and really bad (wtf Luke III), the biggest offender is still the wrong use of pronouns and misspellings that are all over the place

Reading quest text here is quite a headache because it feels like it's 100% unedited and without proofreading, just a group of translators did random sentences and they were mashed together - serviceable is the nicest word I can use but even that is questionable. Hope to see some major improvements that we all knows is never going to happen

  • It's not that i disagree with your reasoning, ofc the translation will never appease to all the players, nothing ever does tbh, it's just that they have no direction on the translation, and it just looks like google translation made by ppl that never even played the game.

If they wanted to go Western names why did they change names like junk knight to Ballride, Lucy to Nomaam, Poison to Naomin, etc, and if they wanted KR names why are some charcs called Western names then? It's just a jumbled mixed of EN/KR/JP and alien languages all around.

That's what pisses me off tbh, not to mention they don't fit the charcs at all, how does LEX a name mostly used for males is on a female charc that has a "cute af but older" trope?
And why does the last boss of the main story that is supposed to be a super strong female called SUZIE:!::?:, it's not even about what ppl want in most cases it's about how badly the names FIT the charcs.

Also yea AT fans are very rare, still AT is my fav series even though i played a disgusting amount of RPG's in my life, and i do hope to god they make a new one with AT1/2 standards:love:.

  • " Lucy>NOMAAM(is this even a name?) " made my day :D:D

  • Victor>LUKE III:!::?:

This made my day. The names are indeed translated strangely. Thor > Toru is also a peculiarity because I would assume "Toru" is the phonetic pronunciation, and thus why it was changed to that, but to me "Toru" does not appear Korean or Western, only Japanese. Why they would translate some names to appear Japanese, when they could have been more easily and justifiably translated to appear Western, is beyond me.

  • Ballride..

    hue.

  • I don't know how about you guys. But I feel like "HP if Victory" is for sure the best translation

  • I like more IN JP npcs names, such as Shion Noa Enoch Xenia, forgot the name of that big robot and the lil kid name etc etc like Shion for that boss sounds badass but Suzie lel

OH i forgot the epic Poison! and here Naomin xD

  • Yeah name translating is, was and will always be a stupid thing no matter what. You do not translate names. They are names. If I travel to a different country I won't be called a different name all of a sudden either. Though I have to admit that I like some of the changed names a bit more, though. Like Lex and Shade. When I hear Brock I think friggin' Pokemon. Though, that doesn't change my stance on the whole subject, mind you.
