Stamina (not fatigue) is pointless given this particular combat system

  • Pointless? you want people to start doing dungeons rolling 24/7 for infinite iframe? No thank you. i like to hit people who are out of stamina not rolling their way out to a city in district 6

  • Usually when you make a topic to "discuss" something, you start by giving your point of view with something more than a vague title. Discuss.

  • Not pointless at all, in fact it's probably one of the most important mechanics in the game for difficulty.

stamina management does not fit in this hack'n'slash genre

if i wanted stamina management and time my dodge rolls i would play dark souls

there are lots of way to counter that, like increasing the cd on rolls

stamina just feels like an afterthought

Stamina is a staple to the games core mechanics. No where was this game advertised as "brainlessly smash your keys to victory" so your statement is completely invalid.

i dont see how removing stamina somehow turns this game into "brainless keyboard smashing"

the core mechanics are revolved around MP, and chaining specific skill combos, none of which requires any stamina use

I'm not saying stamina is always useless in games, but it's certainly out of place here

  • Maybe at lower difficulties it's a hack-and-slash, but at hard and manic difficulties you can't just tank hits and the game is much more of a dodge roll and stamina management type of game. It's much faster-paced and you can basically dodge cancel out of anything, but you still need stamina to actually do that so managing it is important.

    ^ This.

Stamina may not be needed, but it gives the game a more challenging feel.

  • Stamina is the onlything keeping you from spamming it. That is the point here. You suggested adding a CD to the dodge instead which is literally acomplishing the same thing but in a more restrictive manner that wouldnt work for this game. Sometimes you get put in bad situations where you have to use several evades in succesion and proper stamina management will allow you to do so.

  • i'm not saying we should encourage dodge spamming because that is just straight up bad design, so you are right in that we need some form of guard against that

but for any game that relies on a stamina system for restricting what actions a player may or may not do at any given time, any action the player makes requires stamina.

Not here. Here stamina is only used to prevent u from dodge spamming, and it feels like an afterthought. it's like they discovered it after everything else has already been implemented and thought "oh we need something to prevent players from dodge spamming so lets just quickly whip up something"

  • Ok, maybe stamina isnt “pointless” - i used the wrong word here. I apologize for using a click bait-y title to generate discussion.

None the less, for those disagreeing with me - i would like you to point me examples in games where there is resource management solely for an evasion mechanic.

    I cant think of any.

I mean look at monster hunter. It has stamina. Dodge uses stamina. But so does every action you do.

Look at dark souls. It has stamina. Dodge uses stamina. But so does every action you do. Also, for the hardcore pvpers complaining about exploiting dodge spamming. Roll catching is a thing - actually, lemme rephrase that, roll catching is a skill. Get familiar with it, get proficient with it, master it, and you will be punishing dirty roll spammers all day.

For an alternative system. Look at the division. It doesnt have stamina. It does have a dodge roll. It has a cool down on the roll.
