I also broke 2 weapons as soon as I tried a lvl 5 upgrade!
If it's this difficult to upgrade to lvl 5, I don't even want to imagine how much cash people already put out for the lvl 7 and 8 weapons I already have seen... Unless I'm totally missing something here that is right in front of my face and I don;t see!
Unllucky, I +6 my wep using 6 upgrades.

You're just unlucky. I haven't gotten any of my weapons to break and I have +6. Honestly scared it was going to break too as it failed 5 times in a row when it was +5 trying to get it to +6
Get good, you’re just bad at the game tbh.
Getting from +4 to +9 needs usually 30-100 tries or more.
<30 if you're very lucky.
30-60 pretty lucky.
60-100 average luck.
100+ unlucky.
Be prepared to shell out 100$ to get a weapon to +9 (or spend months farming the upgrade protectors for free).

That's way bad luck tho. I got my weapon to +7 in like 10 attempts. (I can see that's a Ravan's Weapon, If you don't mind I would recommend you to get the level 40 set Soulsomething, names changes for everyone since it's char locked, it's pretty good cause of all the bonus set effects and the bonus to your Ultimate skill from the weapon and it will last you until the lvl 55 Set/Steel Grave Set/Raid Set).

All of 8 items I upgraded in a row failed at least one time when trying to get it from +3 to +4, About upgrading to +5 and so on I just don't want to talk =\
We have reduced upgrade rates compared to JP.
Don't upgrade until GF actually listens to all the feedback and improves the game.. notably by copying over JP's changes which are a boon to everyone but the hardcore "I like to grind all day every day" people.

Don't take the risk, use anti-destructions! Unlucky enough to use a lot of them? Make new character to get more... You only need to like change gear like 2x the entire time to 55 so its not bad in long run.

did happen to me too, had lily alt with 18 lvl scythe +5 with 25/25 ... 
Well, firstly, the only thing i can recommended is don't even waste Money and Resources on Upgrading period until you hit the current Cap, the level 55 gear is what should be the enhancement focus.
Of course until the level 60 gear comes along.
But that's just my own personal recommendation; honestly people should do whatever they want, but i would advise against it. 
This reminds me of the old (and somewhat current) enhancement system on Elsword. Back when it was +9 max, you'd break your gear incredibly easy trying to go from +5-6 and even worse from +6-9 if you managed to get that far.
It was bad back then, it's not much better now at a max of +13 (after whale moding it up).
