Playing with 250 ping with the way this game works wasn't fun for me. The last time I played in JP was when VPN was necessary. Not only was it a huge chore to have to use VPN every time I wanted to play, but I also felt JP was just far too extremely easy. I quit halfway through the second town in JP because of ping issues which was especially annoying against that small fish-like boss, along with the fact that I was literally falling asleep on my keyboard because of how easy it was. I also had to play alone which wasn't very fun since I don't like joining random guilds (yes, personal problem), and using auto-team would likely match me with native Japanese players who can choose to report you at any time and get you banned simply because you're not supposed to be playing there.

i'm not. Ping sucks, but 10x crafting materials and lower enhancement rates suck way way more.

ping, though it has lag issue frequently and it makes NA even worse than other versions.
Another reason I choose to play this version: this is a just released version. People have the same starting line, and it has quite good population. You are able to team with other player even while you are lvl, and that's where the fun is.
I used to play JP version and gave up around lv20, because I just solo all the way and there is no one play with me (it was my experience about years ago when the game still runs by Hangame and have IP blocked, so I'm actually not sure what situation over there right now.)
In addition, I play it because Gameforges isn't the worst. I just have an account in TW version recently because my friend have better ping over there. People who play that version should know what I'm talking about; login bonus are even miserable and market price are terrible while gold drop-rate has been nerfed.
I'm actually fine with the exp rate since I'm having fun while lving up. Premium shop price is a shame. However since they are just too expensive, I probably won't put any dollar in this game. Therefore I'm fine with it in another kind of sense, too.

It's NA and fully translated. We get it's Gameforge but that doesn't mean it's going to be horrible.

But I also do play on the private one, just in case this one takes a wrong turn, plus they're releasing Iris tomorrow over there \o/

Because I enjoy being able to actually understand what is going on in the story, what my skills actually do, and being able to see what items do.
Sure, there was an "English" patch for JP version - but it broke after like every patch and currently I'm pretty sure it is broken and I don't even think it's been updated since like...Haru Adv?
I feel uncomfortable playing a game and not understanding 90% of it.

it's very easy to access the translation files from inside game's data. But the honest truth is, the fan translation is better and more accurate than gameforge's translation, so they probably won't even bother. Or they will only take out small pieces of translation (like story or descriptions of some cash shop items).

You would need some kind of heck motivation to keep doing your own translation when a full translation exists(of readable okay quality).
But I digress, I'm fine with the difficulty of the current game(even if intended to make cashgrab). It's been a pretty farcry since most mmos are edging towards a "make everything easier for the populace" stance.

Yeah, and people are getting seriously spoiled by this development too. I'm pretty close to neutral with this game once it has a few balances and some of the slopes are stabilized. I think the game is totally fine - not too hard, not too easy.
