Why no 1 only server?

  • How

    XD

  • Oh but the English server caters to me so this isn't about me personally. If there was a server for my language then I would

not even join it simply because I like to be part of a bigger community.

I personally think more people have that mindset as well which is why I am slightly concerned simply because it does not

support a cross dungeon feature so every server has to survive by their own population.

If they would have supported that system then I would maybe have supported their current server strategy.

Also you started out saying you like the servers this way because you noticed in many games people group up with others

from their language and segregate themselves from those who do not. I feel this is going to happen even more if GF realises the

population is weak and throw them with the EN server. I think the EN server will develop itselves with people knowing they will play

with others who speak another language and most will adjust to that. Now if they suddenly throw the other servers in it

who are used to only speaking in their own language and playing with those who do too, I wonder how much they will adjust.

They didn't have to 'respect' other players who did not understand them all this time and now they suddenly will have to.

I will feel like it will just be german/spanish/italian etc communities seperating themselves from the rest even though we are

    one big server then.

But hey I might just be overthinking this and maybe it will all work out in the end but until I see how things develop with

my own eyes I will remain slightly skeptical.

  • Because NA is gonna have to house everyone and their mums, aunts, and uncles. Even EU players who want to hang in American time/groups.

Basically we're gonna see both what happens when you put everyone on one server, and spread everyone across many.

  • wait what you mean portuguese people will be better with spanish? that would never be the case not in 100 years, i mean maybe for 2% of the portuguese Population only !

  • I'm talking about written which is the main way people are going to communicate with each other ingame through shared words and grammar. I know that Portuguese is the harder language to learn/understand speaking wise but a lot of time when writing you can find common words and similarities where you can understand better than just settling for somewhere you have no understanding at all of what's being said.

If the individual is not fluent in English it would be easier for a Portuguese speaker to communicate with a Spanish speaking-community in writing than it would be to just go to the English server because there's no specific Portuguese server.

I was using it as an example not as a conclusive answer.

  • I'm PT and i understand jack shit from ES.

"Wee yea ra enne ar sar. Wee yea ra enne ar dor"
"Wee yea ra enne ar ciel. Rrha yea ra ieeya en near
    "

"Fou yea ra waath ar ciel, en hymme mea, weel nepo en keen ar sar"

"Rasse, rasse, rasse, rasse, rasee, rasse, en rana!"

  • i mean if you were portuguese you would know that Spanish and Portuguese even grammer wise have nothing alike besides a few words! i feel like its still easier to learn English then it is to understand spanish sometimes, but i guess i know what your trying to say :p Would be easier to compare for exemple Portuguese and Brazilian

  • I'll be fair and say that I'm not Portuguese but Cantonese/British but I used Portuguese/Spanish because we have an ES server even if it was a bit kak handed. English may be easier but I think some people find certain things easier than others and it also depends on where you grow up and what you're exposed to IRL. People who live near borders or in big cities would probably find it easier to adjust/adapt to different dialects and languages.

The point of what I was trying to say is that even if not every country in Europe gets their own server to chill with their own people that going to EN isn't their only option because who are we to assume that they might not know another language well enough that they'd rather go there.

  • In my opinion it's just a bad idea to go for that many Europe servers while only launching one NA server.

There will be a huge player discrepancy especially for the national servers. I don't think the smaller national communitys like the polish one will survive for longer than one year.

Of course theres the possibility to merge servers but that isn't necessary good for the game. When people want to start playing the game in a later point of time they will care about how alive the game still is. In that case reading about server merges will make them not play the game in most cases.

I think they should've gone for at least 2 NA servers and maybe only 3 EU servers. IMO the french and german communities might be the only ones which can keep a server alive. Nothing makes people unable to play with people from their mother language in certain guilds on the global (EN) server.

Yeah exactly they can merge servers but by time they do that they already lost players because of that " Mistake "

  • because ping and lag are things

Well it totally matters if you play on the english server or the polish server. Both will be located (most likely) in germany as gameforge is a german company.
It is just about the language.

  • Assuming they're planning on making one for each server, wouldn't it be more of a latency issue rather than a regional issue?

Like, if the EU and NA servers were merged, and the server was located in EU west, I would not enjoy playing this game at 100ms+ worth of ping.

it’s already said east coast for the east. Doesn’t really matter where in the east.

    XD

  • My fear lies within the lack of players in EU *cough* Elsword *cough*.

But this game shouldn't have any problems with the lack of EU players.

    I hope...
