Soulum Sword - A Comprehensive Haru Guide

  • Yamato

May I ask which AR card(s) should I go with on Haru? I’m pretty new at this AR card system lol. I did some reading and I really want to try get Big Puppet card cuz of 0 cool down for 5sec. Is this card the same as Big Plastica? Not sure y they have different names? How do I get this card? O.O ty

The way the AR card system works, you can only farm 1-star cards from map drops, the rest need to be gotten from the akasha transmitter items. They can be bought either from cash shop, or are handed out as rewards from map completion.

Big Plastica card can only be received from the transmitter gacha, and it has a 5 star rating making it pretty difficult to obtain. I would suggest supplementing with whatever cards you do get for now. I will add a recommended AR cards section to the guide in the next day or two, and I'll tag you when its been updated so you can see the cards in detail.

  • Regarding the Arena Storm skill maxing, if I recall correctly, its only buffing off your base attack and doesn't count any additional from gear/titles/brooches/etc.

Something along the lines of only 200 additional attack at max? It's entirely possible that the skill has changed since I've known its iteration or is different in this version.

Nope, you're exactly right Nan. Arena Storm, like all percent attack modifiers in the game, only affects your characters base attack, a.k.a their attack stat buck naked. Someone asked a similar question earlier in this thread, and I replied back here:

Soulum Sword - A Comprehensive Haru Guide

The short of it is that even at max rank of 20%, the attack buff from Arena Storm pales in comparison to the raw increases from enhancement, and flat attack bonuses. It isn't a bad increase per se, but very meager compared to other dps stats like attack speed and crit/crit damage.

That being said, since its Haru's only party buff, so she's stuck with it. There's also plenty of skill points to throw around in this level cap, so you might as well max it out. Against sandbag bosses, its not very effective, but against bosses like Naran, for example, every little bit of extra attack helps to squeeze out more damage during the short phases where she isn't jumping around.

  • In regards to her passive, EndlessStruggle_zpsyxodkeig.png  Temeraire

does the +damage % only apply to base character attack, similar to Arena Storm? If that's the case it makes the skill less attractive to max...

Indeed it does. In this respect Haru's advancement passive Eternal combination is way better since it stacks on flat attack, which makes a much more noticeable effect.

That being said, your base attack does increase with your level, and Temeraire increases it permanently by 15%. I believe that its worth the points, but it can be ignored if you need the points elsewhere.

  • Soulstrike

A passive that isn't a passive really. It allows you to peform a special attack that uses no SF, and changes based off whether its used in the air or on the ground. In the air, Haru performs a forward kick towards the ground. But the ground version is what makes this skill special.

On the ground, Haru will slam her free hand on the ground in front of her, sending out a small cone of energy in front of her. This energy will slow enemies, and when maxed, and recover a sizeable amount of SF to Haru. Despite being a ground slam, this skill can hit airborne targets. On a 10 second cooldown, this skill provides amazing utility that makes it hard to pass up.

So i've been noticing that for me it doesnt seem to hit airbone targets? I use first strike + extra attack which makes them airborne, after i dodge and use soulstrike. I've never seen it hit the airborne once. :s

  • I don't see the two extensions near Storm Stride (entirely possible that I'm blind though). The left one seems to be horrible since I saw -381% SA break on it, but the right one adds another attack with 300% SA break, making it a lot like First Strike. I got it and seems well-worth the points - Storm Stride now has ~800% SA Break (iirc) and a low cooldown.
And just for the record, at what level will advancement be available and how much effort will it take for it?
Also as a non-related question (excuse me), i sometimes get thrown back mid-dodge and take damage, is this ping like I assume or is there some other reason for it?

Iirc quest for advancements us available at level 57

This is a really good question and i would appreciate it if someone would answer it, its only annoying on Normal, but on Manic it really pisses me off to say the least.

Sorry, I should clarify what I mean. Thete are certain enemies that you find that are considered "airborne" since they fly, such as the drones from Ruin Fortress. These mobs would seem like they are immune to ground attacks, but can still be hit by Haru's Soulstrike.

The launched state that is created by Soulstrike, Ground Pound, and the upswing from First Strike, and allows for additional "aerial" modifier damage; this state is separate, and Soulstrike will not hit enemies in this state. I will edit the skill info to reflect this.

Ah, you're right, I did not add the extensions for Storm Strider. When I first started the guide, I did not intend to go into the extensions at all as I didn't believe it was skill one should ever invest in.

I do agree that the uppercut extension does add more SA break to a skill that already has a sizeable amount of SA break, which makes it fantastic for solo Harus that would get more use out of it. However, when the advancement for Haru comes out, it will provide an extension to Whirl Blade which makes it a DPS option similar to First Blade in terms of efficiency. As such, having enough points to max and extend only two of my first tier skills, I would rather choose Whirl Blade over Storm Strider, and rely on my party and Stellas for SA break.

Nevertheless, as of right now Storm Strider is a better skill than I gave it credit for, so I'll be updating its info and adding details about its extensions today.

Advancement overseas is at lvl 57. Its the standard quest and dungeon completion, similar to how you obtained Supernova from Candus Breakout ep4. I don't think its very difficult to do at all.

The knockback mid dodge or taking damage mid dodge could be two things:

    1. Latency: Clear and simple, hiccups and delays in connection can cause the character to desync, having you dodge on screen but get hit anyway.

    2. I-frame length: The i-frame provided by Haru's dodge (or anyone's dodge really) is very short, meaning that its only reliable to dodge single hit attacks with precise timing. I would not rely on it except as a last resort; its much better to use the dodge to physically move out of the attack hitbox than to i-frame through the hit.

  • Well I don't know if this is straying further off topic than it should but I was a big fan of Royal Guard in dmc 3, so last-millisecond dodges are really satisfying. I kind of live in two places and have noticed this happen a lot more often in the one with the slower internet connection. Add to that the fact that when I try to do the dodge here I end up doing the emergency dodge on 40 second CD and it's clear that the lag is at fault. It's a real shame with all MMOs but there's nothing to do here I guess. Just miss some kind of reward for perfect timing.

Yeah it sounds like just plain latency to me too.

What are some good titles to use? I see a lot of people around with Repair King Big Hands but I don't have it yet. Should I focus on + attack speed titles?

A good, relatively easy to get title is Ascended Combatant, which I believe is for achieving a certain combo amount. It gives you 5% crit for prefix and another 5% for suffix, giving a free 10% crit at all times. Repair King Big Hands is a title used because it gives you a total of 10% bonus exp from mobs when equipped. People use it for faster leveling. At 55 you will swap it out.

You can definitely use the attack speed titles as well, the higher attack speed they give the better. I prefer to get attack speed from my gear and from AR cards though, so your mileage may vary.

  • Thanks for this guide. I always refer back to this when I can get a new skill or extension to better decide if I should get it.

I do have a question and it's about Wind Rupture (Wind Break):

Does the charge time affect the damage or range of the skill? I've always thought that it would be single press until you get the extension to hold the button down for more blades to come out, but you can hold it down soon as you get the skill. I wonder if there's some benefits to fully charging it instead of a quick press.

As of now, I like to press and hold so more mobs can walk within the range of the skill for a massive slaughter, but it can leave me in a precarious position and take unnecessary damage, so I utilize it with care.

  • Just like Erwin's sniper, more charge = more dmg

    wYvcCcb.gif

  • As Fairlyn said, charging affects the damage of the skill, but not the range. The initial slash does the most damage, but each rank of the extension lets you charge up another level and fire another slash that does more damage.

You don't have to hold it longer than necessary. Once you have reached tier 3 charge, you dont have to keep holding till the bar fills fully; you can let go immediately after and it will still fire 3 slashes and do the extra damage. The holding is only to allow mobs to group better or to allow the farther enemies to get in range.
