Concept Art details you might have missed...

  • Introduction

This thread will focus on a few concept art mainly related to SoulWorker's earlier vision (SoulWorker Project), and I'll be pointing out details that I find pretty interesting or that you may miss at first glance. However, you shouldn't get any hopes up, as you'll probably seen these before; what I'm attempting to do is to show the depth that these concept art have (even though it's not that much), and possibly change the way you've viewed these up until now.

So don't be surprised if you found this thread "pointless", "boring" or "uninspired".

    Chainblade

    - Words on the television screen say "Happines rather than Life". Really noticable on the TVs at the bottom right. There's also some kind of pattern on the backround of the screens, but it doesn't appear to have a shape worthy of attention. Animu Lady doesn't seem to be too fond of these TVs.

    - Signs say "Broken Yard No.17" and "Caution". Interestilngly, both signs have arrows pointing to the right.

    - Pretty animu lady is holding a smartphone in her left hand. It could be speculated that these devices would have had some sort of functions in the game. Or most likely not.

    - Pretty animu lady probably enjoyed Pockies(the sticks with a part covered in chocholate). You may know these things as "Mikado" sticks, depending on where you live.

    - Trailer version of Chainblade (missing bear like symbol):

    Gun Jazz Neko Grill

    - If you look at the background really carefully, you can see two corpses. Their shapes resemble that of the enemies featured in the trailer (reference picture below). The odd thing that I can't really explain is why one of them has got some blood nearby, as they didn't seem to lose blood when hit in the trailer.

    - Neko Hoodie Grill has got some scratches on her arms, pretty much confirming that she's portayed while fighting (average user response: "duh, can't you see the **&%$!%£* gunz shooting !? I don't think she's shooting the air !!11! This thread is a waste of time." ). There are also some clear scratches on her thigh high socks.

    Hammerstol

    - The jacket's logo on Iris left shoulder has got a design that's different from any piece of art that involves her. In this image it's some sort of four-leaf clover, while in every other instance where Iris is present, it clearly depicts a raised fist.

    - The first time I looked at this picture I just saw the goddess Iris Yuma standing on some pile of stones. Then I looked a little bit more at the pile and realized it was the remains of a monster/statue/enemy. It won't take you long before you notice the hand, the head, and the blue substance, probably the monster's blood, dripping from what seem to be the monster's horns. It may be very likely that this enemy has been reduced like this by Iris herself, although I am not 100% certain about that; if you believe it though, the expression and the pose of Iris assume a whole new meaning.

    Soul Golems (unofficial name)

    - Not much to say about this picture, except from the fact that these were supposed to be enemies apparently. A thing worth mentioning is that the ones in the front look slightly different from one another, suggesting some degree of differentiation between these guys.

    2012 Soul Worker Image

    - Again, I don't have much to say about this one either. The character displayed here reminds me vaguely of Iris, although her attire is definitely different. The Soul Worker here strongly resembles a redesigned Chainblade for some reason, but it could be a different one altogether. Since in the original version characters didn't seem to be connected to a particular SoulWorker (weapon), maybe this is what Iris would look like if she used a Chainblade instead of an Hammerstol ?

    - At first you may think that the flower was just put there as a purely artistic decoration, but I believe that it's a pretty important element, since through the language of flowers, it may be connected to the emotion/feeling the SoulWorker is supposed to represent. Unfortunatly this isn't my field of expertise, and thus I can't tell you what the flower depicted is supposed to be, let alone if it's a fictional design. I looked some yellow flowers associated to various things, but to be honest, almost all of them are compatible to the one depicted here. It's worth noting that there's also a yellow flower that's associated to "revenge".

As much as I like shota Lilly, the picture itself is pretty... straightforward, in the sense that there's not much to talk about (yeah sure you could argue that all the pictures I presented are like that, but I do believe that the ones I picked do have some nice little details to them that shota Lilly just lacks). No, I don't count the crows as a nice little detail that could be missed.

As for the concept art for Stella... if you are referring to a concept art for the current Stella, it was never my intention to put images of the current characters and build.

If you're referring to some other concept art that's related to the SoulWorker Project direction (2011-2012), then I simply do not know about it. I'd be interested in seeing it though.

  • Honestly the fact that the devs chose to bring Iris out from their early stage doesn't completely rule off the other early concepts. It's very unlikely because they were all adapted into the current characters we have now. But it's not 100% impossible, if they were to bring one they'd most likely have to change their weapons up a bit
