My point of view (snippet of ticket, case: permabanned)

Furthermore would recommend to reconsider the actual banwave with an open letter to the community.
The impact of a bug like this is not solved by banning people. In the first place, it is the fault of the quality assurance. Do you guys realize the irony of postponing updates with the reason of releasing/publishing bug-free content?
Why did people use it?
In the past of this game there were often moments where people had to abuse events/mechanics like this, otherwise the discrepancy in items would be to huge (Easter-Weekend, Winter-Event).
The point noted above is the reason, that a lot of veteran player did use it (fear of missing out...again).
Publication and anticipation.
By making the information accesible to a lot of/every player, we/me anticipated it would result into a rollback of the server. Unfortunately this was not the case.
A lot of player spend a lot of time and money into this free-to-play game. Banning them, in some cases permanent, for a mistake on your side is kinda harsh. It may result into player reconsider playing/spending money into this game.
For clarification, the text above just reflect my opinion and opinions can be different.
